In many ways I have identified as an artist since about 2nd grade! I was told that I was good at drawing and wow did that make an impact on me. I was a very shy and going to school was a hard task for me. Having a talent that set me apart and that I knew to be true has shaped my life. I also had an amazing art teacher in high school that really pushed me forward and solidified that I wanted to pursue art in college.
I got a BA from the University of Pittsburgh with a double major in Art and Business. My last year in school I took a graphic design class and that is what I pursed as a career. This was a great field for me - I love figuring out what is best for each project. I took a hiatus to stay home with my two sons (best decision ever). When I was ready to go back to work, I stumbled on home staging. Again, great field for me because I got to tackle a project and figure out solutions. In 2020, with the onset of Covid, I turned my attention to making art!
Being creative and making things is who I am. Whether it be art, home staging, design, or cooking and gardening, I need to have creativity! I mainly have been working in acrylics with mixed media, but I am starting to work in sculpture. I like to experiment and try new things, so my art is always moving forward. I seem to be drawn to abstract landscapes, but also let my imagination wonder to more abstract ideas that usually focus on a natural theme. I definitely like layers of paper, paint and mark making with added texture and dimension in my art. I have been adding unusual materials, like upcycled wire, found objects and embossed aluminum cans.
Why abstract art? I have worked in many mediums over the years, from pencil drawings, oils and watercolors. Right now, I like the ease of working with acrylics and am interested in creating something new - not an exact representation. I am focused on creating pieces that are uniquely mine. I want people to be intrigued by my art and step closer to see the layers and depth. My main goal is that it is interesting.
I have been living in Maryland for the past 33 years. I live in a rural setting that I find inspiring every day.
